The illustrators Alba Míguez and Damián Gómez have been awarded with the first prize of the IV Comic Contest “Universo Goya” organized by Fundación Ibercaja, thanks to their work Los asesinos sin rostro (Faceless killers). The second prize went to Lucía Cervantes from Alicante with El espejo de Goya (Goya’s mirror). Both works, along with other finalists, will be exhibited in December during the Zaragoza Comic Salon.
The Ibercaja Foundation has announced the winners of the IV Comic Contest “Universo Goya”, a contest that seeks to promote the legacy of the great Aragonese painter through illustration and comics. In this edition, the first prize was awarded to the illustrators Alba Míguez and Damián Gómez from Pontevedra for their work Los asesinos sin rostro, which stands out for its visual interpretation of the executions of May 3rd, one of Goya’s most striking works. The jury valued the quality of the friendly stroke and the excellent use of color to represent such a dramatic theme.
Lucía Cervantes, from Alicante, won second prize with El espejo de Goya, a work that explores the painter’s relationship with Martín Zapater and his first steps as an engraver. Cervantes was recognized for her free stroke and brilliant use of a palette of warm colors that reflect the intimacy of the story.
In total, nearly 40 entries were submitted, and the jury selected eleven works that will be compiled in a special book published by Fundación Ibercaja. These works, along with the winners of the previous edition, will be part of an exhibition in December at the Espacio Joven de Fundación Ibercaja, within the framework of the Zaragoza Comic Fair. Subsequently, the exhibition will tour several locations starting in January 2025.
This event consolidates its role as a platform for emerging artists, providing visibility and paying tribute to one of the greatest references of universal art, Francisco de Goya.
