The GoPro Aragón Grand Prix delivered a spectacular weekend of racing, crowned by a historic Spanish triple victory in MotoGP. Amidst the electric atmosphere of MotorLand Aragón, over 107,000 fans gathered to witness the first-ever triumph of Marc Márquez on a Ducati, marking a pivotal moment in his illustrious career. The weekend was not only a celebration of racing but also a testament to the enduring popularity and economic impact of the MotoGP championship in Aragón.
MotorLand Aragón, a track known for its technical challenges and vibrant fanbase, became the epicenter of the motorsport world this past weekend. The grandstands, filled to capacity from Thursday onwards, bore witness to an array of thrilling races and fan-centric events that made this year’s Grand Prix an unparalleled success. Marc Márquez’s dominant performance in both the sprint race on Saturday and the main event on Sunday captivated the crowd, many of whom had traveled from across Spain and beyond to support the eight-time world champion.
In MotoGP, Márquez led from start to finish in both races, a feat that solidified his place as one of the sport’s all-time greats. Jorge Martín, who now leads the MotoGP standings, finished a commendable second, while Pedro Acosta delighted the home crowd by claiming third place, regaining the form that had defined his early season. The Moto3 race saw a sensational victory for José Antonio Rueda, who, after an impressive comeback, took his first win in the World Championship. Meanwhile, in Moto2, Jake Dixon secured victory after a gripping battle with Toni Arbolino, further fueling the excitement of the day.
The race weekend was not just about the action on the track. The MotorLand Fan Festival, which debuted this year, became a focal point for the tens of thousands of fans. The festival offered concerts, interactive sessions with riders, and a DJ set by Andrés Campo, creating an engaging atmosphere that resonated well beyond the grandstands. The innovative track invasion after the MotoGP race allowed fans to share in the victory celebrations, bringing them closer to the sport than ever before.
Jorge Azcón, President of the Government of Aragón, hailed the event as a resounding success. “This weekend, Teruel, Alcañiz, and Aragón were at the center of the world’s attention. MotorLand puts Aragón on the map, showcasing our region to millions of viewers worldwide,” Azcón said. He emphasized the economic significance of the Grand Prix, highlighting the substantial investment in the circuit, including a recent €6 million resurfacing project. Azcón expressed his commitment to securing MotorLand’s place on the MotoGP calendar, stating, “We want MotorLand to be an undeniable fixture in the MotoGP schedule.”
Manuel Blasco, the Councillor for Environment and Tourism and President of MotorLand, reflected on the event’s success, noting the record attendance and the positive atmosphere throughout the weekend. “Aragón has hosted an extraordinary Grand Prix after a challenging period. The turnout has exceeded expectations, surpassing the figures from 2019,” Blasco remarked. He also emphasized the importance of continuity for the event, underscoring the regional government’s efforts to ensure the Grand Prix remains in Aragón until at least 2026. “We will strive to make it better each year,” Blasco added.
As the Aragón Grand Prix concluded, preparations were already underway for the next major event at MotorLand: the WorldSBK Championship at the end of September. This seamless transition from one global event to another underscores MotorLand’s status as a premier motorsport venue, vital to both the regional economy and the global racing calendar.
The Aragón Grand Prix, with its mix of high-octane racing and fan engagement, once again proved that MotorLand is not just a race track but a cultural and economic powerhouse, firmly establishing Aragón as a central hub in the world of motorsport.
