The Government has approved the distribution of 226 million euros among the autonomous communities to boost agriculture and rural development. This allocation, agreed upon at the Sectorial Conference on Agriculture and Rural Development, aims to enhance the competitiveness of the agri-food sector and promote balanced territorial development.
Distribution of funds for rural development and agriculture
The main allocation, amounting to 158.2 million euros, is intended for rural development within the National Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2023-2027. These funds are co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and contributions from the Central Government and the autonomous communities.
In the realm of agriculture and livestock, 30.2 million euros have been allocated to improve the quality and competitiveness of agricultural production. Of this amount, 21 million is designated for the Community Support Programme for Agricultural Productions (POSEI) in the Canary Islands, 4.58 million to promote beekeeping, and smaller amounts for the quality of plant varieties, native breeds, and milk yield control.
Initiatives to promote healthy habits
19.4 million euros have been allocated for school programs for the 2026/2027 academic year, focused on promoting the consumption of fruits, vegetables, and milk among children. Furthermore, 18.5 million allocated for the current 2025/2026 academic year have been reallocated, reinforcing the commitment to food education.
Impact in Aragon and upcoming actions
Aragon will receive 25.3 million euros of the total, with a distribution that includes 23.7 million for rural development and specific funds for beekeeping, quality of plant varieties, native breeds, and school programs. These allocations reinforce the commitment to sustainable development in the region.
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas, has announced the convening of working groups to discuss the national implementation plan for the CAP starting in 2028. The Government and the autonomous communities maintain a common stance of opposition to the European Commission’s initial proposal regarding the future CAP, seeking a more favorable structure for the sector.
