Aragon closed the year 2025 with an absenteeism rate of 7.3%, surpassing the national average of 7.1%. This increase of three-tenths compared to the same period in 2024, according to the absenteeism report for the fourth quarter of 2025 from Randstad Research, reflects a phenomenon that affects both productivity and the labor dynamics in the community.
Industry and services lead absenteeism in Aragon
In Aragon, the industrial sector tops the absenteeism figures with 7.8%, closely followed by the services sector with 7.4%. The construction sector, on the other hand, is at the opposite end with a rate of 5.0%. Over the past year, both industry and services have seen an increase of four-tenths in their absenteeism rates, while construction has managed to reduce its rate by six-tenths.
Autonomous community comparison: Aragon versus other regions
Aragon is slightly above the national average regarding labor absenteeism. The communities with the highest rates are the Canary Islands with 9.1% and Cantabria with 8.9%. In contrast, the Balearic Islands, Madrid, and La Rioja show the lowest figures, with 6.0%, 6.1%, and 6.2%, respectively. It is noteworthy that La Rioja is the only community that has experienced a decrease in its absenteeism rate, reducing it by two-tenths.
Absenteeism in the national context
At the national level, labor absenteeism affected 1,595,211 people daily during the fourth quarter of 2025. Of these, 1,239,732 were on medical leave, while more than 355,000 were absent for reasons unrelated to temporary incapacity, representing 22.8% of the total absences.
The director of Randstad Research, Valentín Bote, attributes the high absenteeism rates to a structural phenomenon, primarily driven by the increase in temporary incapacity leave. Furthermore, factors such as the mismatch between workers and their positions, difficulties in work-life balance, and emotional well-being are becoming increasingly relevant, affecting corporate productivity.
