Zaragoza Airport to Expand to 21 Destinations in April 2027

Zaragoza Airport will expand its network to 21 destinations in 11 countries starting in April 2027, coinciding with the summer season. The new schedule raises the annual forecast to more than one million passengers and 6,000 flights, up from the current 675,000 passengers and 3,900 operations.

Zaragoza will add nine destinations and strengthen its international connections in 2027

The expansion stems from the first tender for tourism promotion initiatives launched by the Government of Aragon and Zaragoza City Council. Of the 29 lots offered, 19 received bids from airlines—70% of the total—allowing nine destinations to be added between April and September 2027.

The planned offering will rise from the current 11 destinations in six countries to 21 connections across 11 countries. The proposed increase represents growth of nearly 50% in annual passengers and 55% in the number of flights.

The regional minister for Housing, Public Works, Logistics and Territorial Cohesion, Octavio López, and the director general for Transport, David Sánchez Fraile, presented the outcome of the process. López placed these developments within an aviation environment shaped by higher fuel costs and uncertainty linked to international conflicts.

Domestic routes will connect Zaragoza with Alicante, the Canary Islands, Málaga and Ibiza

100% of the domestic destinations included in the tender received bids. The planned connections will link Zaragoza with Alicante, Santiago de Compostela, Málaga, Ibiza, Tenerife North, Gran Canaria and Menorca.

Internationally, the new offering includes flights to Düsseldorf, Bratislava, Porto, Kraków, Brussels, Budapest, Bergamo, Milan, Rome, Marrakech, London, Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca. The schedule strengthens links with European capitals and tourist destinations, both for travelers departing from Aragon and for incoming visitors.

A second round will seek to launch routes that received no bids

Ten lots received no proposals in this first call, including those for Paris, Venice, Warsaw, Prague and Manchester, as well as several Italian and Swiss destinations. The Government of Aragon and Zaragoza City Council are holding talks with several airlines to add those pending routes and other potentially attractive connections.

Octavio López announced a second round through a direct negotiated procedure with certain airlines. A new tender is then planned to add strategic destinations and further expand connectivity at Zaragoza Airport, regarded as key infrastructure for tourism, business activity and Aragon’s international profile.
