Jorge Azcón emphasizes the importance of clean energy and reduced bureaucracy in Europe

The President of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, participated in the Plenary of the Committee of the Regions within the debate ‘The Challenges of Data Centers in Relation to Regional and Sustainable Development’. In his contribution, he emphasized the importance of reducing bureaucracy and producing clean energy as key elements to attract technological investments and digital ecosystems.

Azcón argued that the combination of reduced bureaucracy and clean energy production allows for addressing sustainability issues and attracting companies linked to technology. The regional president noted that data centers will receive the largest investments in the next five years, amounting to between 3 and 4 trillion euros globally. In the case of Aragon, investments worth 50 billion euros have been attracted in the last two years. Azcón attributed this ability to attract investment to talent, geographical location, reduced bureaucratic procedures, and energy production.

The president cited the investment of Amazon Web Services of 15.7 billion euros, which was processed in nine months. He also highlighted that 90% of the energy produced in Aragon is renewable, a determining factor for such projects.

Economic Impact and Infrastructure Demand

In statements to the media, Azcón indicated that these data centers will generate thousands of jobs and allow for the collection of billions in taxes to improve the budgets of the autonomous community. The president urged the Government of Spain to invest in the energy transport and distribution network to facilitate the arrival of more investments. Azcón asserted that there are many other investments «knocking on the door of Aragon,» and their realization depends on the central government «doing its job, listening to Aragon, and investing in that energy transport network.»
