At the San Valero-Escolapios School in Alcañiz, the proceeds from the solidarity event Degusta Teruel, held on June 7 in Alcañiz, were delivered to the Ítaka Escolapios Foundation.
In this edition of Degusta Teruel, 26 hams were sliced, 1,100 trays of Jamón de Teruel D.O.P., Bajo Aragón I.G.P. Olive Oil, and bread from Teruel were sold. This generated a profit of €1,039.51 which has been donated to the Ítaka Escolapios Foundation. The aims of the Ítaka-Escolapios Foundation encompass social issues, development cooperation, and other goals such as: enhancing education as an ideal tool for personal and community development, training educators, working for peace through social awareness, promoting equity for all individuals, especially between men and women, and advancing effectiveness in the fulfillment of human rights. Specifically, these proceeds will be used to strengthen the educational program of a school in a neighborhood of the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, with a focus on human rights, equality, sustainability, and education for social transformation.
Despite moving to Plaza Santo Domingo, the event was very well attended and positively received by visitors and locals, resulting in a satisfactory profit.
The president of the Tourist Entrepreneurs, Elena Marco, highlighted the excellent organization by more than 30 volunteers and 15 ham cutters, emphasizing that this event would not be possible without them: “At TET, we always strive to ensure that volunteers have a pleasant day by engaging them and ensuring they finish very satisfied and have a great experience; thus we achieve more participation each year and many return.” She also emphasized the significant involvement of the Alcañiz City Council, without which this event would not be feasible.
Degusta Teruel is an event that highlights the selfless collaboration of organizations, volunteer involvement, and food promotion, where the profits are donated each year to a different social entity.
