Aragón Showcases Its Automotive Industry to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) in Tokyo

Aragón promotes its automotive industry to Japanese manufacturers

The Vice President of the Government of Aragón, Mar Vaquero, and the Managing Director of Aragón Exterior (AREX), Javier Camo, met with the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) in Tokyo. This meeting is part of the institutional agenda to strengthen relationships with key players in the global economy and showcase the strengths of the Aragonese community.

The meeting with JAMA highlighted that the automotive sector continues to be one of Aragón’s strengths. Mar Vaquero emphasized that Japan already sees Aragón as a powerhouse in automotive manufacturing and underscored the historical significance of the sector with the arrival of General Motors, now Stellantis, and the development of a large auxiliary industry known for its innovation, dynamism, adaptability, and competitiveness.

Data on the Aragonese automotive sector

The automotive industry is a strategic sector in Aragón, employing more than 34,000 people, which represents 27% of total industrial employment. The sector generates a business volume exceeding 12 billion euros, accounting for 5% of the community’s GDP and 30% of industrial GDP. The presence of Stellantis in Figueruelas and the strength of the auxiliary industry have fostered the development of an innovative fabric. The Aragonese Automotive Observatory, driven by the Government of Aragón, outlines the roadmap to position the community as a strategic destination for large-scale projects.

JAMA is a non-profit association founded in 1967 that brings together fourteen Japanese manufacturers of cars, trucks, buses, and motorcycles. Among its members are Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, Suzuki, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Daihatsu, Yamaha, UD Trucks, Hino, Kawasaki, and Mitsubishi Fuso. As a result of the merger in 2002 of the Japan Motor Industrial Federation (JMIF) and the Japan Automobile Industry Employers’ Association (JAIEA), in 2023, member manufacturers exported 4,422,682 vehicles to all continents, particularly North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Its mission is to promote sustainable development in the automotive industry in Japan and contribute to social and economic well-being by fostering innovation, competitiveness, and the globalization of the sector.
