Healthy Breakfasts in Zaragoza: Promoting Healthy Habits

The «Healthy Breakfasts» program from the Protected Designation of Origin Sierra del Moncayo Oil has established itself as a key tool for promoting healthy eating habits among schoolchildren. Since 2018, this initiative has brought extra virgin olive oil into classrooms, with the support of the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food of the Government of Aragon, Javier Rincón, who recently participated in an activity at the Campo de Borja Public School in Zaragoza.

An Interactive Approach to Food Education

The «Healthy Breakfasts» program is distinguished by its interactive approach, which includes dynamic presentations, blind tastings, and creative activities such as label design. These activities culminate in a healthy breakfast featuring toast with extra virgin olive oil, allowing students to experience firsthand the benefits and flavor of E.V.O.O. The objective is clear: to educate children about the importance of local products and to foster healthy eating habits from an early age.

The active participation of students in these activities aims not only to inform but also to inspire future consumers to value and choose quality products produced in their region. This educational strategy aligns with the promotion of a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

Impact and Expansion of the Program

Since its inception, «Healthy Breakfasts» has impacted nearly 240 students in 9 educational centers in the regions of Tarazona, Moncayo, and Campo de Borja. With the intention of closing the season with visits to two additional schools in Zaragoza, it is expected to reach a total of 375 students. This growth reflects the success of the program and its acceptance among the educational community.

Since 2022, the program has expanded its geographic reach to include schools in the city of Zaragoza. This expansion allows for the dissemination of knowledge and appreciation of Sierra del Moncayo E.V.O.O. beyond traditional producing areas, thereby increasing its visibility and recognition among a broader audience.

Future Perspectives and Continuity

The continuity and expansion of «Healthy Breakfasts» underscores the commitment of the DOP Sierra del Moncayo Oil to food education and the promotion of local products. The inclusion of additional educational centers in Zaragoza suggests a promising future for the initiative, which could continue to grow and adapt to new contexts and audiences.
