In January 2026, inflation in Aragón showed a significant deceleration, standing at an annual rate of 2.3%, in line with the national average in Spain. This decrease of six tenths in the annual inflation rate was primarily driven by a drop in fuel prices and a less pronounced increase in electricity prices compared to the previous year.
Factors Influencing Inflation
The evolution of inflation in Aragón was reflected in various consumer sectors. Restaurants and accommodation services experienced the highest inflation, with an increase of 4.6% annually, closely followed by Alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 4.5%. Other sectors that recorded significant increases included Personal care (3.8%), Insurance and financial services (3.7%), and Housing (3.2%). In contrast, sectors such as Information and communications, Transport, and Clothing and footwear saw price decreases, with the latter highlighting a drop of 4.2%.
Market Conditions and Energy Prices
The energy market also played a crucial role in shaping regional inflation. The price of Brent crude oil was set at $66.6 per barrel, representing a 6.5% increase from December but a 15.9% year-on-year decrease. Meanwhile, TTF natural gas was priced at €34.2 per MWh, an increase of 23.8% from the previous month but 29.2% less than in January of last year.
Territorial Performance and Monetary Policies
Regionally, the provinces of Aragón showed variations in inflation: Huesca recorded 2.1%, Teruel 1.8%, and Zaragoza 2.4%. On a monthly basis, prices in Aragón decreased by 0.4%. Meanwhile, the European Central Bank kept interest rates unchanged, with the deposit facility at 2.00%, the main operations at 2.15%, and the lending facility at 2.40%.
