From June 6 to 8, 2025, Zaragoza will host the first International Garnacha and Sustainable Gastronomy Festival at Macanaz Park. This event will feature 21 wineries belonging to the Denominations of Origin of Campo de Borja, Calatayud, and Cariñena, thereby making this location the focal point of the wine world during those days. This initiative is part of the program established by the City Council to enhance the tourist and cultural appeal related to wine in the city, integrating it into the World Capital of Garnacha.
During three consecutive days, the area adjacent to the Garnacha Garden will undergo a transformation into a magnificent wine showcase that will include not only booths for tastings but also picnic areas and a boutique market; in addition to a sensory tunnel dedicated exclusively to Garnacha and a main stage called Vibra Garnacha that will feature musical performances from local groups and live DJ sessions. The majestic Basilica of Pilar will serve as the backdrop for this festival, which aims to establish itself as a national reference in terms of wine tourism.
The organization of the festival is part of a broader program that runs from May 30 to June 8; various activities will take place in different areas of the city, such as culinary workshops and pairings at the Central Market. There will also be special offers in the bars and restaurants participating in the GastroGarnacha initiative, along with exclusive events on hotel terraces as part of the VII Nights of Heat Festival.
Mayor Natalia Chueca has described this festival as a gathering space dedicated to wine that reflects our region in terms of tradition and modernity; emphasizing that the event’s goal is to boost urban life and benefit both the hospitality and commercial sectors in the city of Zaragoza, which has 18,000 hectares of vineyards in the province, positioning it as one of the world’s leading centers for Garnacha production.
Besides enjoying wine at the event, attendees will be able to sample typical products from the region, such as Ternasco de Aragón, cheeses from Letux, or cured meats from Cárnicas Gallegos at the ‘Made in Zaragoza’ fair, which will take place on Saturday the 7th and will also feature a display of local design and fashion.
To enhance the tourist attraction of the event, Zaragoza Turismo has planned winery tours and offers discounts on accommodations along with press trips that will include international journalists from Mexico and Italy.
