The Government of Aragón has announced an investment of 8.2 million euros for the comprehensive rehabilitation and expansion of IES Conde de Aranda de Alagón. The Councillor of Education, Culture, and Sports, Tomasa Hernández, made the announcement during a visit to the center, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this academic year, emphasizing that quality education requires infrastructure in optimal condition and reaffirming that the government is fulfilling its commitments.
IES Conde de Aranda, originally built in a single building, has experienced significant growth in its student population over the decades. Currently, it has 600 students and occupies multiple spaces: the original building, another building constructed later, prefabricated classrooms, the municipal language building, and part of the first floor of the local nursery. The center receives students from neighboring schools, such as CEIP Miguel Artigas of Pinseque and CEIP Alfredo Muiños of Remolinos.
The works will include the construction of a new classroom block, the renovation and improvement of the two existing buildings, the establishment of a new covered playground area, and the upgrading of the pavement, sports fields, green areas, and fencing of the playground. A new covered recreation area will be created, and current accessibility issues will be addressed, as the center currently lacks elevators. These interventions will help alleviate congestion in the center, resolve deficiencies arising from its age and deterioration, and enhance comfort and energy efficiency throughout.
Timeline and execution phases
The investment has already included the tender for the project drafting and construction management. The works are estimated to last 24 months, with a planned start in the last quarter of 2026. Different phases have been planned to ensure student safety, with consecutive moves of students as the work progresses. The project will cover 2,000 square meters and create twelve new classroom spaces. Previously, the main building’s roof has been replaced and the fire protection system has been updated.
