Quirónsalud Reports 2.839 Billion Euros in Six Months and Improves Profitability in Spain

Quirónsalud closed the first half of 2026 with €2.839 billion in revenue, marking a 4% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth continues to demonstrate the expansion of Spain’s largest private hospital network, which has been part of the German group Fresenius since 2017, and is accompanied by an improvement in its profitability.

In the second quarter, revenue reached €1.430 billion, also a 4% rise. According to company information, organic growth was 3%, supported by activity levels, price developments in Spain, and the performance of the occupational risk prevention business. Conversely, the hospitals operated by the group in Colombia reported a decrease in activity, which had some impact on overall results.

The figures highlight Quirónsalud’s growing significance within Fresenius Helios, the division that encompasses the hospital business of the German group. This division reached approximately €7.027 billion in revenue through June, also a 4% increase. Helios hospitals in Germany contributed €4.188 billion, while the business led by Quirónsalud generated the remaining €2.839 billion.

Quirónsalud increases its margin to 13.9%

More significant than the revenue growth is the performance of operational profit. Quirónsalud’s EBIT reached €395 million during the first half, an 8% increase year-on-year. The margin on sales improved from 13.4% to 13.9%, representing a five-tenths of a percentage point improvement.

When compared to the German hospital business, the profitability of the Spanish operations becomes evident. Helios Germany posted an EBIT of €346 million, a 13% increase, with a margin of 8.3%. Quirónsalud, despite lower revenue, reported a higher operating result and a margin more than five percentage points above that of the German hospitals.

In total, Fresenius Helios achieved an EBIT of €741 million during the first six months of the year, an 11% increase. Its operating margin rose from 9.9% recorded between January and June 2025 to the current 10.6%.

Over 11 million patients in six months

The scale achieved by Quirónsalud also explains its importance within the group. Including its centers in Latin America, it operates 57 hospitals and 8,389 beds. Between outpatient consultations and hospitalizations, the first half served 11.36 million people, a 4% increase compared to the same period last year.

The growth in healthcare activity coincides with revenue increases. For Fresenius, Spain has become one of its main hospital markets outside Germany since acquiring Quirónsalud in 2017, an operation that positioned the German group prominently in the Spanish private healthcare sector.

The results for the first half demonstrate that the Spanish contribution is not solely reliant on revenue volume. The operating margin of 13.9% positions Quirónsalud as a particularly profitable operation within Fresenius Helios, significantly contributing to the overall results of the division.

Fresenius reports a 12% increase

The strong hospital performance integrates into a growth semester for the entire Fresenius group. The German group achieved €11.608 billion in revenue, also a 4% increase, while its EBIT rose 7% to €1.397 billion. Net profit advanced by 12%.

Its other major operating division, Fresenius Kabi, dedicated to biopharmaceuticals, nutrition, and medical technology, generated €4.395 billion in revenue during the semester, a 3% increase, and an EBIT of €740 million, with a 5% growth.

Within this business, the evolution of biopharmaceutical activity stands out, with sales increasing by 31% during the first half. One of the main drivers was Tyenne, a biosimilar used in the treatment of specific inflammatory diseases, whose growth was supported by its commercial performance in the United States and Europe, alongside the launch of other biosimilars.

For the full year of 2026, Fresenius maintains an outlook of organic revenue growth between 4% and 7%. The results of the first six months place the group within that objective and confirm Quirónsalud’s role as one of the most relevant components of its hospital business.

The evolution of the Spanish company also reveals a significant fact: while its revenue increased by 4%, its operating result grew by 8%. Quirónsalud is not only growing in activity and revenue but is successfully converting that growth into improved profitability.
