Zaragoza continues to strengthen its position as one of the main industrial and logistics hubs in Southern Europe with the commissioning of the first production line of TDG Ibernavitas, which specializes in advanced energy storage systems. The company has begun assembling equipment exclusively for the European market at its new facility in the PLAZA industrial park, in a project that involves an investment of over 120 million euros over the next five years, along with the gradual creation of up to 800 direct jobs.
The launch of this plant represents a strategic move for both the company and Zaragoza’s positioning within the European renewable energy value chain. The factory has an initial production capacity of 1.5 GWh, which the company plans to expand to 5 GWh annually as market demand increases.
Technology to Drive the Energy Transition
The facilities, which cover an area of 10,000 square meters, include an assembly line for BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), a testing laboratory, an integration zone, and a specialized warehouse.
These systems enable the storage of energy generated by renewable sources to release it when required by the electrical grid, contributing to improved supply stability, reduced demand peaks, and greater integration of clean energy. Intelligent charge and discharge management is carried out through advanced energy management software (Advanced EMS), capable of optimizing battery performance and improving the efficiency of the electrical system.
Zaragoza Chosen as an Industrial Platform for Europe
The decision to establish European production in Zaragoza stems from a strategic process that began in January 2024. After analyzing various locations in several Northern European countries, TDG Group chose the Aragonese capital due to factors such as its logistical position, the development of its industrial ecosystem, and institutional collaboration.
The company was established in late 2024 and was officially presented during an institutional mission in the Chinese city of Haining in February 2025.
Zaragoza’s mayor, Natalia Chueca, participated in the inauguration ceremony of the new production line alongside executives from TDG Ibernavitas and emphasized the impact this investment will have on job creation, talent attraction, and the international positioning of the city.
Industrial Growth and New Investments
During this initial phase, the plant will reach a workforce of around 100 employees, although the strategic plan aims to double both production and employment before 2027.
The project extends beyond the assembly of energy storage systems. The company’s roadmap anticipates that, starting in 2029, new industrial facilities will be developed with 30,000 additional square meters, where battery cells using technologies such as lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and sodium ions could be manufactured, advancing toward fully integrated production in Europe.
This growth would significantly enhance Zaragoza’s industrial capacity within a strategic market for energy transition and the development of electrical infrastructure.
A Boost for the Aragonese Tech Ecosystem
The establishment of TDG Ibernavitas also aims to strengthen collaboration with the technological and university sectors in Aragon. The company maintains a joint chair with the University of Zaragoza dedicated to research in energy storage and technologies related to renewable energy.
In addition to direct employment, the company expects to generate activity for industrial suppliers, specialized service companies, and logistics operators, reinforcing the business ecosystem in the region.
A Market with Strong Growth Potential
The growing electrification of the economy, the increase in renewable generation, and the development of data centers are driving the demand for energy storage systems in Europe. In this context, having production capacity within the continent has become a strategic factor for reducing external dependence and ensuring the supply of critical technologies.
With the opening of this new plant, Zaragoza adds a new industrial asset in one of the sectors with the greatest growth potential, reinforcing its role as a destination for international investments linked to innovation, energy, and advanced industry.
