The Comarca Comunidad de Teruel has taken a significant step in promoting cycling tourism with the inauguration of 23 cycling routes that add up to nearly 280 kilometers. This project, known as Bicitela, has been made possible thanks to funding from the Teruel Investments Fund (FITE) and aims to position the region as an attractive destination for cycling enthusiasts.
New Routes to Discover Teruel
The 23 newly inaugurated cycling routes connect 34 municipalities of the comarca, offering a route primarily along municipal paths and some paved sections. Designed to be accessible to all types of users, these routes are particularly suitable for electric bicycles, ensuring a safe enjoyment of the natural and scenic surroundings. With this initiative, the aim is to promote sustainable and environmentally friendly tourism.
The project’s infrastructure has been carefully planned to facilitate the experience of cyclists. Fifteen bicycle repair stations have been installed at strategic points, such as Alfambra, Cascante, and Celadas, among others. This support network ensures that cyclists can enjoy their rides without technical concerns.
Investment and Noteworthy Routes
The Bicitela project has involved an investment of nearly 200,000 euros, financed 50% by the Government of Aragon and the Government of Spain. This investment has enabled the comarca to establish a signposted and accessible network that not only benefits cyclists but also drives local development by attracting visitors to the region.
Among the standout routes are the Mas Cabrera–Tormón route of 19.7 km, Riodeva–Cascante of 14.0 km, and Santa Eulalia–Alfambra of 28.9 km. Each route offers a unique experience, allowing cyclists to explore the scenic and cultural richness of Teruel.
Institutional Support and Future Perspectives
The inauguration of these routes was attended by key figures such as Manuel Blasco, Counselor of Environment and Tourism, and José Herrero, President of the Comarca, who highlighted the project’s importance for the region. Enrique Gómez, Deputy Representative of the Government of Spain in Teruel, and Raquel Clemente, Mayor of Celadas, also attended, emphasizing the institutional commitment to sustainable development and active tourism.
With the launch of Bicitela, Teruel positions itself as a reference in cycling tourism, offering visitors a way to explore the region actively and respectfully towards the environment. This project not only enhances the comarca’s tourist offering but also boosts the local economy and the well-being of its inhabitants.
