Unemployment in Aragón Decreases by 4.20% in February 2026

The unemployment rate in Aragón experienced a significant decrease of 4.20% in February 2026 compared to the same month of the previous year, according to data from the State Public Employment Service. This annual decrease translates to 2,211 fewer people in unemployment, bringing the total figure to 50,374 unemployed. However, February showed a monthly increase of 1.57%, with 779 more unemployed individuals compared to January.

Monthly Increase in Unemployment in Aragón

In February 2026, unemployment in Aragón rose by 779 people compared to January, representing an increase of 1.57%. This rise included an increase of 505 women (1.65%) and 274 men (1.44%). By sector, services recorded an increase of 579 people (1.67%), agriculture increased by 24 people (1.27%), and industry rose by 21 people (0.40%). In contrast, the construction sector experienced a reduction of 65 people (-2.42%). Additionally, the group of unemployed individuals with no previous employment increased by 220 people (4.32%).

Regional and National Comparisons

Nationally, unemployment recorded in February 2026 increased by 0.15% compared to January, reaching a total of 2,442,646 unemployed individuals. At the regional level, 12 out of the 17 communities experienced increases in monthly unemployment. In the regions neighboring Aragón, Navarra recorded an increase of 0.92%, Cataluña an increase of 0.63%, and La Rioja an increase of 0.39%, while the Comunidad Valenciana and the Basque Country showed decreases of 0.38% and 1.06%, respectively.

Annual Analysis and Sector Behavior

In the annual analysis, all autonomous communities, including Aragón, showed decreases in unemployment. In Aragón, the reduction of 2,211 people was distributed between 959 men (-4.73%) and 1,252 women (-3.88%). By sector, services reduced their unemployment by 1,437 people (-3.92%), industry by 550 people (-9.37%), and construction by 211 people (-7.45%). At the provincial level, Huesca, Teruel, and Zaragoza also saw significant decreases in unemployment.

In terms of hiring, Aragón registered 32,506 contracts in February 2026, an increase of 1.93% compared to the same month of the previous year. Of these, 11,913 were permanent contracts, representing 36.65% of the total. The average affiliation to the Social Security also showed growth, with an increase of 2,408 people compared to January, reaching 629,231 affiliates in the region.
