The Government of Aragón and the City Council of Zaragoza have signed an agreement to promote the Aragonese Technological District Alierta (DAT Alierta), an ambitious project aimed at positioning Zaragoza as a technological benchmark in Southern Europe. This agreement, which has the support of major companies and scientific institutions, focuses on transforming the city through innovation and technological development.
Institutional Cooperation for Strategic Development
The signed agreement establishes a framework for collaboration between the Government of Aragón and the City Council of Zaragoza, with the aim of facilitating institutional coordination and the urban planning necessary for the development of DAT Alierta. Jorge Azcón, acting president, emphasized the importance of cooperation between institutions, stating that this collaboration demonstrates that when institutions work hand in hand, with strategic vision and institutional loyalty, we can drive transformative projects for the region.
For her part, the mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca, highlighted that DAT Alierta will become the new economic engine of Zaragoza. Currently, the ICT sector represents 3.5% of total employment in the capital, a figure that rises to 6.4% when considering the expanded technological perimeter.
Million-Euro Investment and Capability Expansion
The DAT Alierta project involves an investment of over 200 million euros, backed by companies such as Circe, Siemens, Integra, and ESpanix. Within this framework, the comprehensive renovation of the European Center for Enterprises and Innovation (CEEI) has begun, along with the expansion of the Technological Institute of Aragón. Furthermore, the construction of a new building dedicated to technological Vocational Training is planned, which will enhance the operational capacity of the district.
The Alierta Technological District will be located around the Río Ebro Campus of the University of Zaragoza, covering an approximate area of 82 hectares. This new district will integrate into the urban fabric of Zaragoza, incorporating green areas, open spaces, and pedestrian pathways. Additionally, it will act as a connecting bridge between the Juslibol neighborhood and Parque Goya, promoting the transfer of knowledge between the university, businesses, and institutions.
