The Zaragoza Provincial Council has approved the allocation of almost 500,000 euros in direct assistance to support the three Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) for wine in the province: Cariñena, Borja, and Calatayud. The goal is to strengthen the wine sector, which is key to the rural economy and the external projection of the region.
The assistance will enable each designation to promote actions, participate in national and international fairs, develop marketing campaigns, improve their communication tools, and strengthen the presence of Zaragoza wines in new markets. It will also contribute to projects on digitalization, training, and modernization—areas that wineries consider essential for gaining competitiveness.
The Provincial Council emphasizes that these support lines respond to the commitment to back a strategic sector that generates employment, retains population in rural areas, and preserves a wine landscape that is part of the provincial identity. The three designations encompass dozens of wineries and grape growers, whose activities have a direct impact on the local economy.
With this investment, the provincial institution strengthens its collaboration with the PDOs and contributes to ensuring that Zaragoza wine continues to advance in quality, recognition, and ability to reach new consumers both within and outside Spain.
