Ibercaja Foundation Celebrates 150 Years with Jewel-Laden Mantle in Zaragoza

Fundación Ibercaja has celebrated its 150th anniversary with a solemn event at the Basilica del Pilar in Zaragoza, where it presented a jewel-encrusted mantle to the Virgin of Pilar. This gathering, presided over by Amado Franco and José Luis Rodrigo, brought together prominent Aragonese and ecclesiastical authorities, symbolizing the institution’s history and its ties to Aragón.

Ceremony at the Basilica del Pilar

In a ceremony rich in symbolism, Fundación Ibercaja offered a jewel-encrusted mantle to the Virgin of Pilar, marking one of the most special moments of its 150th anniversary. The ceremony took place at the Holy Chapel of the Basilica del Pilar, led by Amado Franco and José Luis Rodrigo, who performed the offering of this exclusive piece. Following this, a solemn Eucharist was celebrated at the High Altar, officiated by the Archbishop of Zaragoza, Carlos Escribano.

Authorities Present at the Event

The event was attended by important figures such as the President of the Government of Aragón, Jorge Azcón, and the President of the Cortes of Aragón, María Navarro. Also present were the Vice President and Minister of Presidency, Justice, and Culture of the Government of Aragón, Mar Vaquero, along with other counselors, members of the Board of Fundación Ibercaja, and executives from Ibercaja Banco.

A Jewel-Encrusted Mantle Rich in Symbolism

The jewel-encrusted mantle is a textile artwork created at the Orobordado Workshop in Seville, using techniques from Spanish Baroque embroidery and noble materials such as gold thread. This piece reflects the history and commitment of Fundación Ibercaja to the Aragonese territory, incorporating symbols like the Fountain of Piety and the entity’s logo. The three Aragonese provinces are represented in the design, highlighting elements from Huesca, Zaragoza, and Teruel.
