Indra to Manage Tolls for North East Link Project in Australia

Indra has been selected to supply and deploy the tolling back-office management system for the North East Link project in the Australian state of Victoria. The company announced the contract award on February 10, 2026, without disclosing its value or specific timeline.

The Back Office system will support payment collection operations and the management of customer service, commercial, and operational processes. The platform will form part of the North East Link State Tolling Corporation’s tolling infrastructure and will be integrated with roadside technologies and other IT services.

A road link slated for 2028

North East Link will complete the connection between the M80 Ring Road and the Eastern Freeway M3 in Melbourne. The project includes two 6.5-kilometer tunnels, with three lanes in each direction, and is scheduled to open in 2028.

The development also includes a dedicated bus corridor and more than 34 kilometers of new or upgraded pedestrian and cycling paths. According to information released by Indra, the infrastructure is intended to remove up to 15,000 trucks a day from local streets and cut travel times between northern and eastern Melbourne by up to 35 minutes.

The company says its tolling technology is deployed on more than 3,300 roads across 20 countries and processes more than five million electronic transactions a day. The corporate announcement does not specify which part of the Australian project Indra will carry out directly, nor does it provide the financial terms of the contract award.
