Mitsubishi Electric and COFIDES will invest an additional €108 million in PLD Space, according to information released by the Spain-Japan Council Foundation. The transaction raises the Spanish space company’s Series C round to €288 million and brings its total funding to €488 million.
The inflow of new capital strengthens the project’s international dimension and deepens business and technological cooperation between Spain and Japan. Available information does not specify how the investment will be divided between Mitsubishi Electric and COFIDES.
Industrializing MIURA 5
PLD Space plans to use the funds to industrialize MIURA 5, expand its production and testing capacity, and develop launch infrastructure. MIURA 5 is the reusable launch vehicle through which the company aims to provide commercial space-access services.
These objectives reflect plans communicated by the company and its investors. The investment provides funding to pursue them, but does not in itself mean that the announced industrial, operational, or commercial milestones have already been achieved.
An alliance with strategic reach
Mitsubishi Electric’s participation brings one of Japan’s leading technology groups into the project, while COFIDES strengthens Spanish institutional backing. The transaction positions PLD Space among the most significant industrial initiatives in Spain-Japan cooperation and highlights growing investor interest in the European space-launch market.
