Aragonese exports registered a year-on-year increase of 35.0% in the month of August 2022, while in Spain the average increase was 31.7%, according to data made public this Tuesday by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism. This places the Autonomous Community as the sixth region with the highest year-on-year growth in foreign sales in the month of August.
Aragon’s foreign trade data continue to show the robust evolution followed in recent months by regional foreign sales, which reached a value of 1,192.7 million euros in August, which is the highest value in the historical series for the month of August.
With the accumulated data for the first eight months of 2022, it can be seen that Aragonese exports experienced a year-on-year increase of 15.3%, reaching 10,875.7 million euros, compared to the 25.0% increase recorded up to August by the national average.
With regard to total Aragonese imports in August, these increased by 34.0% year-on-year, reaching a value of 1,178.0 million euros, while in the national aggregate, purchases abroad recorded an average increase of 42.6%. The figure for regional foreign purchases accumulated between January and August reached a value of 9,472.1 million euros, which represents a year-on-year increase of 20.1%, to be compared with the accumulated increase of 40.5% recorded for Spain as a whole.
The breakdown of foreign trade figures among the main sectors shows how the most dynamic activities in foreign sales of the Autonomous Community during August 2022 were those related to food, beverages and tobacco (with an export value of 261, 1 million euros, accounting for 21.9% of the total), consumer manufactures (with an export value of 222.0 million euros, accounting for 18.6% of the total) and the automotive sector (with an export value of 219.5 million euros, accounting for 18.4% of the total).
With regard to Aragon’s imports, the productive sectors which show the highest figures in the same month are the following: consumer manufactures (with a value of imports of 438.1 million euros, accounting for 37.2% of the total), capital goods (with a value of imports of 299.6 million euros, accounting for 25.4% of the total), and chemical products (with a value of imports of 117.7 million euros, accounting for 10.0% of the total).
As a result of the evolution of trade flows so far in 2022 (up to August), Aragon recorded a trade surplus of 1,403.7 million euros, 9.2% lower than that obtained during the same period in 2021. In this way, the Autonomous Community contributes to the decrease in the Spanish trade deficit accumulated up to August 2022, which stands at 46,461.1 million euros.
Finally, Aragon’s coverage rate in the year-to-date is positive and rises to 114.8%, 30.4 points above the Spanish average (84.4%).
