Five-time world motorcycling champion Jorge Lorenzo has signed an agreement to become the sports manager of young Aragonese rider Víctor Cubeles, known in the paddock as “Chico Maravilla.”
This move goes beyond conventional representation and places Lorenzo at the center of a new model for developing talent in motorcycling, driven by his own experience at the world elite level. The fact that Jorge Lorenzo is leading this project is no minor detail.
His career, marked by competitive excellence, technical rigor, and a winning mentality forged from the ground up, brings unique credibility and influence to the project. From his agency, Lorenzo defines this initiative as the desire to “create in motorcycling what La Masía has been for soccer,” that is, a recognizable, coherent, and sustainable system.
The model is based on methodology, comprehensive training, long-term decision-making, and a distinct identity from the earliest stages of a rider’s career. It is not just about training fast riders, but well-rounded athletes who are technically, mentally, and strategically prepared to reach the elite level. Under the name ‘JL99 Performance’, the project aims to become a school of thought and performance, where each rider is the result of a solid system and not improvisation.
The agreement with Víctor Cubeles represents the first visible step in this approach, as well as a key historical continuity: Chicho Lorenzo, Jorge’s father and one of the most influential figures in the training of riders at an international level, has been Cubeles’ coach at crucial stages of his development.
For Jorge Lorenzo, this new stage responds to a personal conviction: “After experiencing motorcycling from the inside throughout my life, I feel that it is time to give back to the sport everything it has given me, creating a system that helps young riders grow with method, criteria, and a clear vision.” In that sense, the 15-year-old rider from Zuera “perfectly represents that starting point.”
For his part, Víctor Cubeles has emphasized the value of the project: “Being part of an initiative led by Jorge and Chicho Lorenzo is a unique opportunity. It’s not just about competing, but about learning to build a career with solid foundations.”
