Adapted Terrace Inaugurated at the Maternal and Children’s Hospital of Zaragoza
The Miguel Servet University Hospital for Maternal and Children in Zaragoza inaugurated the Lacasitos Terrace on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, an outdoor space designed for hospitalized children. The project, developed in collaboration with Grupo Lacasa, aims to humanize hospital care and improve the emotional well-being of young patients with long or recurrent stays.
The terrace is located on the fifth floor of the center and features an accessible and safe design based on universal accessibility criteria. The space includes four distinct areas:
- Early Stimulation Area (up to 6 years): with sensory and educational games
- Children’s House (up to 6 years): to encourage symbolic and social play
- Adapted Swing (1 to 12 years): with a special seat for children with disabilities
- Spring Rocker (1 to 9 years): adapted for reduced mobility
Every detail was developed in collaboration with the hospital’s healthcare team to ensure the safety and participation of all children, regardless of their abilities.
Numerous healthcare professionals from various units and representatives from patient associations attended the event. Participants included Ana Belén Moreno, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Grupo Lacasa; Ana Castillo, Managing Director of the Aragonese Health Service; and Patricia Palazón, Manager of the Zaragoza II Sector. The institutional representatives emphasized the importance of the space in providing young patients with a place to disconnect from the clinical environment, enjoy play, and continue feeling like children.
Grupo LACASA is a family-owned company founded in 1852 in Jaca (Huesca) by Antonio Lacasa. The company, whose initial activity focused on chocolate production, has established itself as one of the leading national producers of chocolates, children’s sweets, turrón, pralines, and candies, with a presence in international markets.
