Aragón Allocates €13 Million to Agricultural Insurance in 2027

The Government of Aragón plans to increase agricultural insurance aid to €13 million in 2027, from the €11.9 million allocated for 2026. The funding will be the largest financed with the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Food’s own non-cofinanced resources.

Aragón to allocate €13 million to subsidize agricultural insurance in 2027

The regional minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Food, Arancha Simón, announced the projection at the opening of an Agroseguro information session held in Zaragoza. The planned 2027 budget will account for around 70% of this type of own-source funding managed by the Directorate-General for Rural Development.

Regional aid is applied as a direct discount when the policy is purchased. This system enables farmers and livestock producers to know the final cost of their insurance from the outset, without having to advance the subsidized amount.

Data provided by Agroseguro put the insured value in Aragón at €1.745 billion in 2025. Insurance coverage approached 80% for crops such as extensive field crops and vineyards.

The event was held at the Hotel Silken Reino de Aragón and brought together nearly 60 professionals from coinsurance entities and their sales networks, along with representatives linked to the agricultural sector.

The session focused on new developments in insurance lines for extensive field crops, wine grapes, olive groves, and nuts. In the livestock sector, the regional minister noted that uptake of livestock insurance varies across insurance lines.

The Department plans to work with Agroseguro to improve the information available to Aragón’s livestock producers on the different coverage options.

Cooperation between the Department and Agroseguro has also focused on streamlining the processing of compensation for farmers affected by the wildfires recorded in Aragón that summer.

The Official Gazette of Aragón published a call on Monday for €550,000 to compensate pasture losses at livestock farms affected by the wildfires. Livestock producers may submit applications from Tuesday, October 27.

In addition, the Department is preparing a forthcoming call to cover damage to agricultural infrastructure and losses sustained by affected beekeepers.
