Aragón Allocates 159 Million to Roads in 2027, 98% More

The Directorate General for Roads and Infrastructure will have €159 million in 2027, a 98% increase from the previous year. The increase, announced by Regional Minister Octavio López on October 27, 2026, is intended to strengthen the regional road network and meet commitments under the Aragon Extraordinary Roads Plan.

Roads budget in Aragon to rise to €159 million in 2027

The Roads allocation will rise from €80.26 million to €159 million, an increase of €78.7 million. The funds will be allocated to the regional network and the development of the Aragon Extraordinary Roads Plan (PEC).

The announcement coincides with the presentation of the 2026-2027 winter road maintenance campaign, which will officially operate from December 1 to March 31. The operation may begin earlier or be extended depending on weather conditions and will cover a regional network spanning 5,700 kilometers.

The operation will include 69 snowplows, four more than in the previous campaign, and will employ 160 professionals from concession companies, the Directorate General for Roads and Infrastructure, and support teams.

Winter operation strengthens key areas in the Aragonese Pyrenees

The campaign will have 53 salt and de-icing material depots, 18 weather stations, and 110 radio units from the Aragon Emergency Communications Network. In addition, three snow experts will provide advice in particularly sensitive areas of the Pyrenees.

This technical support will focus on the Benasque Valley and access to Llanos del Hospital, the Panticosa area, and the Ordesa Valley. López said the aim is to strengthen prevention, coordination, and response to snowfall and icy conditions in order to facilitate safe travel.

Aragon Extraordinary Roads Plan reaches 82% completion

The PEC, launched in July 2024, calls for the upgrading of 1,760 kilometers across 51 roads through €630 million in construction investment. The plan has now reached 82% completion.

Of the 11 routes included, five have already been completed: Bajo Aragón, Zaragoza-Oeste, Zaragoza Central, Cinca-Litera, and Teruel Este-Oeste. Together, they account for more than 852 kilometers of upgraded roads.

The remaining six routes are progressing, with completion expected gradually between the final months of 2026 and the first months of 2027. The concession model also provides for the upkeep and maintenance of the roads throughout the contracts’ 25-year term, including winter road maintenance work on sections already completed.
