The Costa Group has launched a large-scale project, the Agro-Food Logistics Center of the Ebro Valley (CLAVE), with an announced investment of 896 million euros in Villamayor de Gállego, Aragón. This project has been designated as a Plan of General Interest for Aragón (PIGA) and aims to position Aragón as a key hub in biotechnology, research, and agro-food development.
A transformative project for Aragón
The Agro-Food Logistics Center of the Ebro Valley (CLAVE) represents a total investment of 896 million euros and the creation of 5,300 direct jobs in the next 15 years. With this initiative, it is expected to generate 4 jobs for every million euros billed, with 40% of the jobs being technical positions. The project will be developed in an area of 180 hectares south of the municipality of Villamayor de Gállego, a strategic location due to its proximity to the A-2 motorway and the Malpica industrial park.
Initial phase and short-term benefits
The initial phase of the CLAVE project will involve an investment of 175 million euros, aimed at constructing a biotechnology campus, a poultry production center, and the corporate building of the Costa Group. These infrastructures are scheduled to be operational within two years after the commencement of construction. Meanwhile, the economic impact on the region will be significant, with an estimated increase in the Aragonese GDP of 1.080 million euros, representing an additional 2.31%, and an impact of 14.95% on the Aragonese industrial sector.
Sustainability and vision for the future
The innovative nature of the CLAVE project also extends to its commitment to sustainability. It is the first industrial land project in Spain to obtain the BREEAM® ES Urbanism certification, focusing on sustainability and reducing CO2 emissions by 70%. Additionally, it incorporates an integrated model of circularity and efficient water management. In the biotechnology field, the new campus will feature 64 highly qualified professionals and will promote collaborations with universities and research institutes for the development of patents and agro-food and biotechnology projects.
The CLAVE project will not only foster economic growth in Aragón but will also significantly contribute to innovation and sustainability in the agro-food sector. With its focus on biotechnology and energy efficiency, CLAVE is set to become a national and international reference in the agro-food industry.
