The Acting Minister of Education, Culture, and Sports for the Government of Aragón, Tomasa Hernández, has highlighted the quality and employability of vocational training (FP) in Aragón during her visit to the region’s delegation at the National Vocational Training Olympics SpainSkills 2026 in Madrid. This competition, which brings together students from across Spain, showcases the educational excellence and technical preparation of young people from Aragón.
Representation and Achievements of Aragón in SpainSkills
Aragón is represented at SpainSkills 2026 by 29 students from 21 educational institutions, competing in 24 official specialties and 3 demonstration categories. Hernández visited the competition areas where students showcase their skills in disciplines such as automotive painting, bodywork, woodworking, and automotive technology. The presence of Aragón in these competitions underscores the region’s commitment to quality vocational training.
In the previous edition, Aragón achieved notable results with two medals: gold in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, and bronze in Bakery. Álex Caro, the champion in Refrigeration, subsequently won a European bronze at EuroSkills 2025, highlighting the high level of preparation of Aragón’s students.
Strengthening Vocational Training in Aragón
Hernández emphasized that vocational training in Aragón is synonymous with excellence and innovation, and has been a priority for the regional government. In the past two years, 3,330 new positions have been created, and training offerings have been expanded to meet the needs of the labor market. This approach has allowed the employability rate in general dual vocational training to exceed 86% and reach 97% in intensive dual training, with a drop-out rate of less than 3%.
The strategy of Aragón focuses on modern and flexible vocational training, which not only equips students with technical skills but also connects them directly with the labor market, ensuring their integration.
Strategic Collaboration with the Business Sector
The General Director of Planning, Centers, and Vocational Training, Luis Mallada, accompanied the Aragón delegation at SpainSkills and held meetings with collaborating companies. These partnerships are essential for adapting the educational offering to the demands of the productive sector, ensuring internships and placements in companies that enrich the students’ training experience.
The 2026 edition of SpainSkills, organized by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, and Sports, concludes on Saturday, February 28. This event, featuring more than 550 competitors, serves as a key platform to showcase the talent and preparation of young people from Aragón in a national setting.
