What to see in the province of Teruel. Discover the best places 2/2 To cover everything there is to see and know in Teruel in two posts is mission impossible, this land offers multiple and varied options. In this second post we show twelve of them

Cretas

Cretas is another picturesque town in the Matarraña, quite similar to Calaceite, but in a smaller version. Its old town has several interesting corners such as the Plaza Mayor with the town hall, the Calle Mayor, the church of the Assumption and the hermitage of the Mercy.

La Fresneda

Still in the Matarraña region, you will find La Fresneda, another charming town in the province. The Portal de Xifré will lead you to the Plaza Mayor where you will find the beautiful town hall. You should also not miss the church of Santa Maria la Mayor and the viewpoint located at the site of the old castle. From here you can enjoy a panoramic view of the charming Ermita de Santa Bárbara and its surroundings.

Alcañiz

Alcañiz, the second largest city in the province of Teruel, is home to many gems, but it is probably the magnificent castle of the Order of Calatrava that will touch you the most. The castle (now Parador Turístico) is located on top of a hill and dates back to the 12th century and has both Muslim and Christian influences. In addition to visiting the fortress, you should visit the Plaza España de Alcañiz which houses the main monuments of the city such as the beautiful church of Santa María la Mayor which used to be a collegiate church, the Gothic building of La Lonja and the Renaissance town hall.

Puertomingalvo

Puertomingalvo, one of the most beautiful towns in the Gúdar-Javalambre region, also has a magnificent 13th century castle that presides over the entire old town located on a rocky souk. Another highlight of the town is the beautiful Gothic building of the town hall. If you visit Puertomingalvo, I also recommend you to go to the Cascada del Arquero, one of the most beautiful waterfalls to see in the province of Teruel.

Ojos del Cabriel

One of the simple and beautiful hiking trails to do in the province is the Ojos del Cabriel trail. The «eyes» (ojos) refer to the water that rises from the ground through the rocks, bubbling at many points. The walk also includes two beautiful waterfalls, the Cascada del Molino de San Pedro is one of the most beautiful in the province.

Museo Minero de Escucha

An old coal mine where, during a guided tour, you can not only get to know the mines, but also learn a lot about the hard work of the miners.

Beceite and Parrizal de Beceite

Beceite (Beseit) is another town in La Matrarraña. Walking through the narrow streets, you will see many architectural details of the old Arab town and also many picturesque details of the rural life such as the public washhouse. In the outskirts of the town you will find the Parrizal de Beceite where you can take a simple but beautiful walk along the river Matarraña. The best point of the route is the place where you will cross a beautiful narrow canyon between high rock walls.

Castle of Peracense

Among the many castles to visit in the province of Teruel, the castle of Peracense is perhaps the most impressive. Its location on a very high and steep rock is simply spectacular. Inside, you can visit the walls, the old outbuildings and especially enjoy a magnificent view of the Jiloca valley.

Mirambel

Mirambel is another of the picturesque towns of the Maestrazgo. With just over 100 inhabitants, it is a small town with a charming old town that houses interesting monuments such as the church of Santa Margarita, the town hall and the town castle. In the surrounding area you can also visit archaeological sites from the Iberian era.

Mora de Rubielos

Mora de Rubielos is worth a visit for its imposing medieval castle with its walls that offer magnificent panoramic views and it is also worth getting lost in the beautiful medieval town that spreads around its Plaza Mayor.

Alcalá de la Selva

Alcalá de la Selva is another beautiful town in the Gúdar-Javalambre region that is not to be missed. The town has a population of just over 300. Its quiet main square, its elegant main street, its church and its castle are all worth spending a few hours in during your trip through the province of Teruel.

Grutas de Cristal / Crystal Caves

In the municipality of Molinos, you will find one of the karst systems of Aragon and this complex communicates with the outside through the Grutas de Cristal. In the caves you will see many rooms and galleries full of precious stalactites and stalagmites. A place not to be missed, if you are a cave lover.
