In May 2025, Aragón registered 49,305 unemployed individuals, marking the first time that the number has fallen below 50,000 since August 2008. Membership in the Social Security system reached a historic high of 632,434 contributors.
Key Unemployment Figures
In the last month, the reduction in unemployment was 2.31% compared to April, equivalent to 1,167 fewer people. Year-over-year, there was a decrease of 3.64%, which represents 1,861 fewer unemployed compared to May of the previous year. The reduction was distributed by gender, with men experiencing a 3.37% monthly decrease (666 fewer) and women seeing a drop of 1.63% (501 fewer).
Analyzing by sectors, the records from May compared to April show that the services sector decreased by 2.35% (823 fewer), industry fell by 3.15% (178 fewer), agriculture saw a decline of 6.98% (126 fewer), and construction dropped by 3.03% (85 fewer).
Regional Comparison
In terms of regional comparison, significant monthly declines in unemployment are evident. La Rioja reported a decrease of 3.21%, Basque Country saw a 2.01% decrease, and Catalonia experienced a 1.90% reduction. However, the most notable annual reductions occurred in La Rioja, with a 7.17% decrease, and the Valencian Community, which fell by 5.90%.
Job Hiring
In May, a total of 44,366 contracts were signed, representing an increase of 12,609 compared to April. Of these contracts, 42.19% (18,178) were permanent, while 57.81% (25,648) were temporary. By province, Huesca marked the largest increase with a 60.50% rise, followed by Zaragoza with a 40.38% increase. However, Teruel experienced a decrease of 4.10%.
Social Security Membership
The number of individuals contributing to the Social Security system in May reached a historic record of 632,434 affiliates, which represents a monthly increase of 1.82%. Year-on-year, 8,965 more people joined, resulting in an increase of 1.44%. In a national context, Spain reached a total of 21,784,375 affiliates, a record figure in its history.
