The Department of Education, Culture, and Sports of the Government of Aragón and the Aragonese Society Pedro Sánchez Ciruelo of Mathematics Teachers have signed a new collaboration agreement valid for four years. The agreement, which already has the approval of the Government Council, aims to strengthen the mathematical competence of Aragonese students through educational, training, scientific, and outreach activities.
The history and mission of the Aragonese Society Pedro Sánchez Ciruelo
The Aragonese Society Pedro Sánchez Ciruelo of Mathematics Teachers is a scientific society established in 1981 with multiple specific goals. Among its objectives are: updating the professional level of mathematics teachers, promoting the development of research related to the Teaching and Methodology of Mathematics, applying this knowledge to teaching practice, serving as a place for collective reflection to exchange ideas and experiences, and organizing courses and activities that contribute to improving the teaching of mathematics and its dissemination in society.
Collaboration programs between institutions
The cooperation between both institutions dates back to the 2012-2013 academic year with the implementation of the educational program Mathematical Connection, aimed at Primary, Secondary, and Adult Education centers. With the new agreement, they will expand this collaboration to the Mathematical Competence Reinforcement Program (ARCOMAT), which will be launched in the 2025/2026 academic year. The ARCOMAT program aims to improve the mathematical competence performance of students in Primary, Secondary Education, and basic vocational training, with personalized attention for the students.
Specific activities of the agreement for the future
According to the agreement, the Aragonese Society Pedro Sánchez Ciruelo will create a working team to collaborate with the Department in designing, developing, and collecting open educational resources to support teachers within the ARCOMAT framework. They will also participate in designing training itineraries aimed at advisors and coordinators of mathematical competence in schools and teachers in general. Additionally, they will conduct research activities at the request of Education to diagnose the state of teaching and learning and assess the impact of the ARCOMAT program.
