Aragon Tenders Rehabilitation of Kindergarten in Calatayud for 2.7 Million
The Department of Education, Culture, and Sports of the Government of Aragon has tendered the works to rehabilitate the old Ramón y Cajal school in Calatayud and convert it into the new kindergarten Our Lady of Carmen. This action is part of the regional plan to convert old daycare centers into Kindergartens.
Project and Tender
The investment amounts to 2.7 million euros with an execution period of 12 months. Interested companies may submit bids until October 6 at 2 PM through the public sector contracting platform. The project includes the renovation of the kindergarten Our Lady of Carmen and the rehabilitation of the old school Ramón y Cajal, which has been transferred by the Calatayud City Council.
In February 2024, the 94 students of the kindergarten Our Lady of Carmen had to be relocated after serious structural problems were discovered in the building, issues that had not been addressed by the previous educational administration. The kindergarten was located in a building adjacent to the old school Ramón y Cajal, also occupying part of it.
The students have been temporarily relocated to two centers: 57 students aged 2 at CEIP Augusta Bílbilis and 37 students aged 1 at the Margarita Kindergarten of the City Council. They will remain in these facilities during the rehabilitation works.
Features of the New Center
The new Kindergarten will have two units for students aged 0 (offering services that have been nonexistent until now), four units for 1-year-olds, and another four for 2-year-olds. The facilities will include bedrooms for different ages, restrooms incorporated into the classrooms, a multipurpose room on both floors, a dining room with a kitchen, storage rooms, a laundry room, a dining area for staff, and offices for management and early attention. This initiative is part of the regional investment plan exceeding 11 million euros for the conversion of eleven old daycare centers of the DGA into Kindergartens.
