The Government of Aragon and the University of Zaragoza have reaffirmed their commitment to improving higher education and research during a meeting of the joint commission held on July 2, 2026, at the Paraninfo in Zaragoza. This meeting highlighted key agreements on university infrastructure and research excellence, marking an important step for the academic and scientific development of the region.
Commitments to University Infrastructure
During the session, the Investment Plan for Infrastructure and Equipment 2022-2026 was updated, validating strategic projects for the year 2026. These include improvements to the medical faculties in the three Aragonese provinces and the continuation of significant works such as the renovation of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts. Additionally, the creation of new research centers is being promoted, particularly the CEMINEN building on the Río Ebro Campus. These initiatives reflect a determined approach to strengthening the educational and research capabilities of the University of Zaragoza.
Research Excellence and Funding
In the field of research, the joint commission evaluated compliance with research indicators, achieving an impressive 93.80%. This high level of compliance ensures funding of 2.08 million euros for 2025, as well as an advance of 2.14 million euros for 2026. These financial resources are essential for maintaining and enhancing the university’s research quality, solidifying its role as a driver of innovation and development in Aragon.
Institutional Participation and Future Perspectives
The session was chaired by Carmen Susín, the Minister of Education, Science and Universities, and included prominent representatives from the Government of Aragon and the University of Zaragoza, including Rector Rosa María Bolea. This meeting not only reinforces interinstitutional collaboration but also lays the groundwork for future initiatives that promote the economic and social transformation of the community through education and research.
