0.4% Increase in Chinese Stocks Driven by State Insurers Encouraging Long-Term Investments in Growing Insurance Market

Chinese stocks rose by 0.4%, bolstered by support from state-backed insurers promoting long-term investment. This increase occurs against a backdrop of moderate growth in the Chinese insurance sector, which is notable for its ability to influence the stability of the local stock market.

Chinese equities climbed 0.4% in a bullish session, thanks to the reaffirmation by major state insurers supporting the strategy of maintaining stable positions in the equity market. This message, framed within the consistent growth of the insurance sector, is viewed as a positive signal amid an environment of economic slowdown and stock market volatility.

In the first half of 2026, the Chinese insurance sector reported 3.86 trillion yuan in premiums, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 3.3%. Non-auto insurance premiums accounted for 54% of the total recorded by property insurers, while life insurance products with profit participation showed a remarkable increase of 94.4%, reaching 1.01 trillion yuan. This dynamism is underscored by a key message: state insurers play a crucial role in stabilizing the market, acting as long-term institutional investors.

Allianz has highlighted China as the second-largest insurance market in the world, accounting for 10.9% of global premiums, projecting continued growth in the coming years. This context also resonates internationally, with significant interest in how Chinese insurers’ investment patterns affect inflows into Asian equities, potentially influencing perceptions of stability in the Chinese market abroad.

Although the direct impact of these developments is limited in Spain and Latin America, the insurance sector in Spain closed 2025 with €85.879 billion in premiums, 13.73% more than the previous year. This allows for a comparison between the maturity and size of both markets, while also providing a reference framework for global trends in the insurance sector.
