The Minister of Education, Culture, and Sports of Aragón, Tomasa Hernández, emphasized the relevance of critical thinking in education during her speech at the II National STEAM Congress «Leading the Future». This event, which is being held at Etopía until February 7, brings together over 50 educational institutions and offers more than 150 activities to promote education in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
The importance of critical thinking in the technological era
Hernández underscored that the STEAM approach goes beyond being a mere trend; it is a set of essential competencies for facing future challenges. In her address, she insisted on the need to educate students in critical thinking to ensure a responsible and ethical use of technology. According to the minister, education must prepare not only qualified professionals but also citizens who can navigate an increasingly interconnected society. In this sense, she highlighted the importance of fostering skills such as creativity, problem-solving, innovation, and teamwork.
The role of the educational community in the advancement of Aragón
During her speech, Hernández also emphasized the fundamental role played by both teachers and families in the educational process. She stated that «the educational community is made up of all of us» and that only through a joint effort can Aragón be positioned at the forefront of education. This collaborative approach is crucial for promoting the development of STEAM competencies in the region.
Debate on Artificial Intelligence and education
Subsequently, Hernández inaugurated a round table titled «AI: the revolution of education,» which included Ana Cristina Lahoz, director of CEIP Tenerías; Merche López, director of Salesianos Zaragoza; and Carmen de Lasala, director of Sansueña-Montearagón. The debate focused on the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence in the educational field. The congress will continue until Saturday, offering workshops, presentations, immersive experiences, and activities designed for students, teachers, and families, thus consolidating Aragón’s commitment to educational innovation.
