Dan Bonssai’s «Change of Scale» Exhibition in Zaragoza Until April

The Ibercaja Foundation hosts the exhibition «Change of Scale» by urban artist Dan Bonssai at the Espacio Joven until April 25. This showcase, part of an initiative to support young talent from Aragon, offers a unique insight into the artist’s creative process, from his initial sketches to his most impressive urban murals.

A Journey Through the Work of Dan Bonssai

The «Change of Scale» exhibition presents a selection of pieces that vary in format, from small sketches on paper to large canvases of up to 2 meters in height. This journey allows visitors to immerse themselves in the artist’s world, observing not only his finished works but also the working materials that reveal his creative process. The exhibition includes some of Bonssai’s most notable murals, providing a comprehensive view of his artistic evolution.

Dan Bonssai’s creative process begins with drawing, which serves as the foundation of his visual language. The exhibition reflects how his ideas are born in the sketchbook, grow on the canvas, and eventually transform onto the wall, in an artistic practice that shifts in rhythm and scale. This approach allows the audience to appreciate the continuity and transformation of his works across different mediums.

Thematic and Emotional Exploration

The theme of Bonssai’s work revolves around a universe of portraits and imagined characters, where emotional states manifest through tense gestures and figures in struggle. His work seeks a balance between what we feel internally and what we project outwardly, exploring the duality between the inner world and public image.

Dan Bonssai, whose real name is Daniel Martín, was born in Madrid in 1994 and has lived in Zaragoza since 2013. With a background in Industrial Design Engineering and a master’s degree in Ephemeral Architecture, his work is characterized by contemporary surrealism that addresses themes such as the passage of time, nostalgia, and personal transformation.

Future Initiatives at the Espacio Joven

In 2026, the Espacio Joven will continue to promote emerging talent with solo exhibitions from the winners of the third call. A total of five artists will have the opportunity to showcase their work, complemented by a group exhibition that will include two additional artists. Furthermore, the Community Wall on Fernando el Católico will be renovated by three new artists selected in the competition, ensuring a dynamic and ever-evolving space for young art in Zaragoza.
