The town of Daroca has inaugurated the Historical Garden of Engineer Nicolás-Ricardo García Cañada, a project financed by European funds that stands out for its sustainable management and its importance in flood prevention.
Recovery of the Centenary Garden
The garden, which covers an area of 8,000 m², has been rehabilitated thanks to the NextGenerationEU funds from the Tourism Sustainability Plan. This space, which had remained hidden for decades, has the collaboration of the Government of Aragón, the Campo de Daroca County, and the Daroca City Council. Among its most notable features, the garden houses unique botanical species, serves as an urban green lung, and improves rainwater retention. It is expected to open to the public at the end of June 2025.
Manuel Blasco, Councillor for the Environment, highlighted the project as a model for efficient use of European funds and as a tourism engine for southern Zaragoza and Teruel. Míchel García, Mayor of Daroca, emphasized the heritage value of the garden and the collaborative institutional work. Javier Lafuente, County President, highlighted its educational and environmental potential.
Conclusions from the Technical Sessions
Jorge Mongil from the Catholic University of Ávila highlighted a reduction of 18% in sediment erosion and 11% in gully slope in the Corneja River basin in Ávila. Joaquín Navarro emphasized the viability of restoring degraded ecosystems through planned human interventions, as demonstrated in Saldaña, Palencia.
Guillermo Fernández from MITECO presented the National Plan for Priority Actions, focused on combating desertification and improving resilience to wildfires.
