The Government of Aragón has taken a significant step towards the digitalization of the agri-food sector with an investment of nearly 6 million euros. These measures, focused on technological modernization, will benefit 113 new players in the sector, thereby reinforcing their competitiveness and sustainability.
Resolutions for Technological Modernization
The Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Food has approved two complementary resolutions that total 5,843,823.19 euros in grants. The first resolution, signed on March 9, 2026, allocates 3,964,357.62 euros to 69 beneficiaries. The second, on the other hand, grants 1,879,465.57 euros to an additional 44 beneficiaries. These initiatives take advantage of budgetary surpluses and credit extensions to address previously waiting list applications.
European Funds and Strategic Objectives
The grants are part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, funded by the European Union through the Next Generation EU funds. The aim is to accelerate the digital transformation of the Aragonese agri-food sector, improving its sustainability, efficiency, and competitiveness. In an earlier resolution from 2024, 156 files were approved for 11.9 million euros, leaving 677 applications on hold.
Innovation and Technological Implementation
One of the new features of these resolutions is the advance payment of 100% of the grant to beneficiaries, without the need for a bank guarantee, except for cases exceeding 60,000 euros. The investments must be completed by May 28, 2026, for the first resolution and by June 18, 2026, for the second. The subsidized technologies include monitoring systems, automation, sensorization, and intelligent data management. José Manuel Cruz, Director General of Rural Development, emphasized that the goal is for «innovation to reach as many farms as possible,» preparing them for a more efficient and sustainable future.
