The economy of the autonomous community of Aragón (Spain) has kicked off the year 2026 with a steady pace of expansion, recording a year-on-year growth of 2.8% in its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) during the first quarter. This figure surpasses the average recorded across Spain, which stood at 2.7%, and sharply contrasts with the 0.4% average in the eurozone, according to data from the latest Quarterly Economic Bulletin prepared by the Aragón government.
This progress is grounded in the resilience of internal demand and, in particular, the strength of external demand. Aragón’s exports experienced a year-on-year increase of 3% between January and March, a performance that exceeds the national average. From the supply side, both the manufacturing industry and the services sector reported an acceleration in their growth compared to the last quarter of 2025.
Regional economic authorities have highlighted that these indicators reflect the adaptability and resilience of Aragón’s productive fabric amid an international landscape marked by trade tensions and geopolitical uncertainty. In addition, preliminary data for the second quarter of 2026 suggest that the region is maintaining a momentum similar to that of the first three months of the year.
Record Figures in the Labor Market
Macroeconomic growth has had a direct reflection on the labor market in the region. Employment recorded a year-on-year increase of 2.6% in the first quarter, which has pushed the total number of employed persons in Aragón to a historic high: 638,000 workers.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate stood at 8.4% at the end of March, a figure that positions it more than two percentage points below the national average in Spain (10.8%). Regarding prices, the inflation rate closed the first quarter at 2.7% year-on-year.
The economic report from the Aragón government also includes a special mention of foreign direct investment captured throughout 2025, a factor that has been pivotal in establishing the region as a competitive destination for the development of new industrial and business projects at the European level.
