Recovery of the Automotive Market in Latin America: Ecuador Leads with 26% Growth in 2026

The automotive market in Latin America is showing signs of recovery with consistent growth across several countries. Ecuador stands out with a 26.0% increase in automotive revenue from January to May 2026, indicating a notable recovery compared to the previous year.

According to recent data, Ecuador’s automotive revenue reached $5.082.4 million in the first five months of 2026. This year-on-year growth of 26.0% reflects an overall positive trend in the automotive industry of the region, which has begun to stabilize after years of fluctuations.

Regionally, ALADDA reported that the automotive market grew by 3.1% in January 2026 compared to the same month last year. In particular, Colombia and Peru have also reported encouraging figures, with an increase in new vehicle sales. In Colombia, 28,142 new vehicles were registered in March 2026, a 53.4% increase compared to the same month in 2025, while in Peru, the sale of light vehicles grew by 36.8% in the first two months of 2026.

Banco de Occidente’s report highlights that the automotive market in Latin America mobilized 6.8 million vehicles in 2025, with a 7.1% annual increase. This growth trend is expected to continue, driven by greater availability of credit and fleet renewal. Production in Brazil also shows growth, with nearly 2.8 million units projected for 2026, representing a 5.8% increase from the previous year.

Ecuador’s revenue, where vehicle trade and repairs dominate and contribute 93.6% of total revenue, reached $1.054.4 million in May 2026, marking a 19.8% increase compared to May 2025, despite a 4.8% decrease compared to April of this year.
