Nuevo León has established itself as Mexico’s leading manufacturing hub for household appliances, accounting for over 40% of national production. The imminent adoption of artificial intelligence poses new challenges for this expanding sector.
The household appliance industry in Mexico is notable for its significant production value and integration into export chains. Nuevo León, in particular, leads the landscape with over 40% of national manufacturing, followed by states such as Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, and Guanajuato. The sector’s growth, driven by trends like nearshoring and the reconfiguration of supply chains, has propelled Mexico to fifth place globally in the production of these devices.
Since 2014, the production value of the sector has increased significantly, with estimates suggesting that the household appliance market will reach between USD 15.94 billion and USD 23.37 billion by 2035. It is projected that the major appliances segment will reach USD 10.54 billion by 2025 and USD 13.12 billion by 2031. In Nuevo León, it is noted that household appliance production accounts for approximately USD 4.5 billion, a substantial component of the country’s total production.
The market composition for household appliances shows that 49% corresponds to air conditioning and heating, while major appliances, industrial refrigeration, and small domestic devices also play crucial roles. In the kitchen appliances segment, central Mexico is expected to account for 42.71% of sales by 2025, reflecting its commercial maturity. Additionally, refrigerators lead this market with a share of 27.68%.
In this context, artificial intelligence represents a milestone in the sector’s technological evolution, impacting key areas such as automation, predictive maintenance, and logistical optimization. The adoption of these technologies will be essential for the Nuevo León cluster to maintain its competitiveness in an increasingly demanding global market.
