The Edelvives Group has taken a significant step in the field of digital printing by inaugurating Europe’s first Fujifilm Jet Press 1160 CFG in Zaragoza. This technological advance not only positions the Spanish publisher at the forefront of on-demand printing but also reinforces its commitment to sustainability and innovation in the publishing sector.
Innovation and Institutional Support at the Inauguration
The inauguration of Edelvives’ new digital printing plant was attended by prominent political and business figures. Among the attendees were Jorge Azcón, acting President of the Government of Aragon; Mar Vaquero, acting Vice President and Minister of Presidency, Economy, and Justice; and Tomasa Hernández, acting Minister of Education, Culture, and Sports. Representatives from Fujifilm, both from Japan and Spain, were also present, along with Javier Cendoya, General Director of the Edelvives Group, and Iván Aísa, Production and Logistics Director.
Commitment to Sustainability and Efficient Production
The installation of the Fujifilm Jet Press 1160 CFG allows Edelvives to move toward an on-demand production model, aligning the manufacturing of books with actual market needs. The publisher aims for nearly 100% of its production, which hovers around 3 million books, to be achieved through this process by 2026, thus reducing overproduction and unnecessary stock storage.
Moreover, this technology offers significant environmental improvements, such as the elimination of the plate-making process and the reduction of waste and chemicals, making production more sustainable.
Technical and Educational Capabilities of the New Technology
The Fujifilm Jet Press 1160 CFG stands out for its ability to print at a speed of 160 meters per minute, doubling the efficiency of previous technologies. Its capability to work with offset and coated papers of high quality equates its results to those of conventional offset printing.
This advance also drives Edelvives’ GoProject educational initiative, which personalizes educational materials for institutions and centers, tailoring them to their specific needs. Staff training has been key in this process, with operators and technicians specifically trained to ensure the continuous operation of the plant.
