Zaragoza Launches Smart Horeca Agenda to Boost Tourism

Horeca Zaragoza has launched the Horeca Zaragoza Smart Agenda, a digital tool that uses artificial intelligence to compile and organize the cultural, culinary and leisure offerings of the Aragonese capital. The project aims to turn a fragmented schedule into up-to-date, accessible information while connecting events with opportunities for the hospitality sector and the local economy.

AI centralizes Zaragoza’s cultural, culinary and leisure calendar

Zaragoza hosts concerts, exhibitions, festivals, cultural activities, leisure options and culinary experiences whose information is spread across websites, platforms and publications. The Smart Agenda was created to bring this content together in a centralized system, allowing users to find out what to do in the city without having to consult numerous channels.

The tool identifies information across different digital sources, detects events and activities, classifies them by category, identifies duplicates and structures the content to keep it up to date. Once validated, the information is added to a central database from which it is distributed through different channels.

The project is supported by the Department of Economy, Digital Transformation and Transparency of the Zaragoza City Council. Its approach combines technology, public-private collaboration and economic development, using artificial intelligence to address a specific need: making an offering that has until now been fragmented easy to find and useful.

The Horeca Zaragoza Smart Agenda will be available via the web, WhatsApp, email and Wallet

The initiative is committed to “frictionless” access. Rather than requiring users to download a new application, they will be able to view content on the digital web agenda and receive it through WhatsApp, email or their mobile phone’s Wallet.

The Wallet system works similarly to a boarding pass: each user can add a digital pass to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet to access the agenda from their mobile phone. Some content may be available even without an internet connection.

Distribution via WhatsApp is supported by the official WhatsApp Business Cloud API and pre-approved templates. User subscriptions and cancellations are managed automatically, while residents and visitors can sign up through the designated website and choose the channel through which they wish to receive information.

The agenda aims to channel Zaragoza’s activity toward local hospitality businesses

The Smart Agenda seeks to link each concert, exhibition, festival or event with the flow of people it generates in the city. That activity can create opportunities for restaurants, cafés, hotels and other businesses tied to tourism and leisure.

Anyone viewing an event will be able to discover culinary offerings and activities near their location. The aim is to encourage the discovery of nearby establishments and services, while strengthening the connection between the city’s programming and local spending.

For establishments affiliated with Horeca Zaragoza, the tool is positioned as a no-cost value-added service. The Federation will be able to prioritize content from its members and provide QR code materials so venues can bring the agenda closer to their customers.

Founded in 1977, Horeca Zaragoza brings together the business associations representing restaurants and hotels in Zaragoza and its province, and has more than 1,000 member companies. With the new agenda, the organization aims to turn information on culture, leisure and gastronomy into a more connected city and new opportunities for its economic fabric.
