The Aragonese president Jorge Azcón participated in the DCD Connect forum of Data Center Dynamics on 21/05/2025, highlighting the need to promote energy infrastructure through private capital. He emphasized that Aragón leads investments in data centers in Spain, with €37.2 billion received.
Azcón proposes to open energy transport investment to the private sector to avoid relying solely on public funds. He suggests accelerating the five-year plans of Red Eléctrica and implementing storage systems through pumped storage and batteries that would enhance efficiency in energy distribution.
In his remarks, the president rejected the concept of a «data center bubble» used by the Government of Spain. He argued that more developed countries have a higher density of these infrastructures and demanded their recognition as strategic facilities. This approach, according to Azcón, is essential for the economic and technological development of the region.
Economic Impact That Transcends Borders in Aragón
Every job generated in data centers creates three indirect jobs in the area, demonstrating the potential for economic growth. Azcón highlighted that the community has attracted a total of €37.2 billion in investments in this sector, and there are expectations of new projects. Additionally, he assured that Aragón has enough territorial capacity to absorb even more investments, emphasizing its role as a technological hub.
The president urged ensuring a sufficient energy supply to consolidate Aragón as a key technological center, announcing future investments in the sector that reaffirm his commitment to regional energy and economic development.
