Former Aragonese president Javier Lambán will be awarded posthumously with the Gabriel Cisneros Prize for Constitutional Values. The announcement was made by the president of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, during the General Policy Debate on the status of the Autonomous Community.
Javier Lambán will receive the Gabriel Cisneros Prize for Constitutional Values posthumously, which has been awarded by the regional government since 2023. Jorge Azcón highlighted that Lambán was an example of coherence, honesty, and constitutional patriotism that we must honor and from which we should take inspiration to face the challenging moments and unprecedented situations that national politics is experiencing.
The Aragonese president explained that this serves to close a circle of mutual recognition, rewarding what Lambán bravely and courageously did until his last day: to exalt, defend, and promote the democratic values enshrined in the Spanish Constitution. Azcón recalled that in November 2018, during the fortieth anniversary of the Spanish Constitution, President Lambán distinguished the Turiasonense Gabriel Cisneros with the Medal of Aragon for his decisive participation in Spanish democratic history.
Background of the Award
Javier Lambán will be the third figure recognized under the Gabriel Cisneros Prize. In previous instances, this recognition has been awarded to Aragonese deputies and senators from the constituent legislature and to the prosecutors of the ‘procés.’
