Sos del Rey Católico immerses itself in history this weekend with its medieval days, a celebration that commemorates the birth of Ferdinand II of Aragon. This event, declared of Tourist Interest of Aragon since 2015, revives the life of the 15th century through recreations and historical dramatizations.
A Journey to the Past in Sos del Rey Católico
The medieval days in Sos del Rey Católico are an essential part of local tradition. During these days, the inhabitants of the municipality dress in medieval outfits, while the streets are adorned with banners, transforming the town into an authentic historical stage. The community actively participates in the activities, which are organized by local associations in collaboration with institutions and public administrations.
The event began on Friday, March 6, with the presentation of the program and the dramatization of «The Commission of the Lord of Sada,» accompanied by medieval tapas. The day continued with concerts, book and CD presentations, and a medieval scavenger hunt, warming up for the main weekend.
Activities of the Medieval Weekend
On Friday, March 13, the activities started with the dramatized representation of «The Announcement of the Arrival of the Queen» in the medieval Lonja, followed by a tasting of medieval tapas in local bars. On Saturday, March 14, the day began with the opening of the medieval market and camp, followed by archery workshops and shield and sword activities for children. Medieval dances and knights’ duels enlivened the Plaza de la Villa.
The main event of Saturday was the dramatized representation «The Arrival of the Queen and The Birth of a King,» which took place at the Portal of the Queen, the Plaza de la Villa, and the Palace of Sada. The day culminated with a display of artillery and more medieval tapas.
On Sunday, March 15, the activities included the opening of the medieval market, popular and charitable migas, and a procession of soldiers. Medieval dances and the performance of «Las Alcahuetas» continued to liven up the Plaza de la Villa. The parade of Infanzones and the arrival of the Kings marked the highlight of the day, followed by battles in honor of the king and a fencing initiation workshop.

The City Council of Sos del Rey Católico leads the organization of these days, with the collaboration of various groups and entities. The involvement of the community and institutions ensures the success of this celebration, which not only honors Ferdinand II of Aragon but also strengthens the cultural and social fabric of the municipality.
