Zaragoza Hosts the First National Debate Tournament The Wave

The I National Debate Tournament The Wave took place from April 16 to 18, gathering twenty teams of students from all over Spain. This event, part of the technological congress The Wave, was organized in collaboration with the Government of Aragón and was held at the Cardenal Xavierre FESD School.

More than one hundred young people participated in the tournament with the aim of developing their skills in critical thinking, argumentation, and public speaking. In addition to the debates, attendees enjoyed experiences in virtual reality, robotics, and artificial intelligence, and attended lectures by prominent figures in the business and digital fields.

The acting Vice President of the Government of Aragón, Mar Vaquero, was present on the final day, highlighting the importance of these initiatives in preparing new generations for the challenges of an increasingly technological and globalized society.

Reflections on Technology and Democracy

The tournament focused on the question: Does technology help to improve democracy? This topic allowed teams to reflect and debate on the impact of innovation in today’s society.

The final pitted two teams from Seville against each other, with St. Mary’s School emerging as the winner. Martin Porteiro was recognized as the best speaker of the tournament, while Rodrigo Soriano Palomo, from the Spanish University Debate League, received the award for best judge.

Promoting Young Talent and Educational Excellence

Organized by Dicentis Comunicación, the event reflects the commitment of the Government of Aragón to promote young talent and educational excellence. This initiative is part of the regional government’s strategy to position the Community as a benchmark in innovation and knowledge, integrating technology with the development of talent and the comprehensive training of young people.
