The Spanish Army is preparing a new technology investment to strengthen the cyber defense capabilities of the 31st Electronic Warfare Regiment (REW 31). The unit will add new equipment to improve network monitoring, alert management, and the detection of intrusions and security incidents, including a server specifically designed to work with artificial intelligence.
The contract has a base tender budget of €198,056.50, including taxes, and covers the supply of the equipment as well as its installation, integration, testing, and commissioning. The deadline for bids remains open until September 24.
The initiative is aimed at expanding the capabilities of the system used by the regiment to monitor networks and detect potential threats. The investment combines communications infrastructure, data storage and processing, and specialized computing capacity for artificial intelligence.
One of the key components will be the new server intended for cybersecurity services. The system will feature two AMD EPYC 9135 processors, 512 GB of DDR5 ECC memory, and various NVMe SSD storage drives.
This configuration will also include three Nvidia RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell GPUs, each equipped with 96 GB of memory, as well as a 25 Gb Ethernet connection and capacity to expand the number of graphics processors.
Adding this type of infrastructure provides the capacity to process large volumes of information and paves the way for more intensive use of artificial intelligence tools in analyzing data related to network security.
Cyber Defense Also in International Operations
The modernization is not intended solely for the unit’s permanent facilities. Spanish Army documentation provides for the monitoring systems to be deployed whenever operational requirements demand it.
The contract stipulates that the successful bidder must provide technical support both at domestic facilities of the 31st Electronic Warfare Regiment and, when necessary, at international locations where the unit is deployed.
The investment is part of the ongoing development of REW 31’s technological capabilities. The unit, part of the Spanish Army’s Signals Command, specializes in electronic warfare and also operates systems for cyber defense monitoring, detection, and analysis.
The digitalization of military operations and growing reliance on communications networks have made the protection of information systems an increasingly operational capability. In this context, tools capable of identifying anomalies, managing alerts, and analyzing large volumes of data are assuming a growing role within defense infrastructure.
The new equipment will enable the 31st Electronic Warfare Regiment to expand the technological capabilities of its monitoring system and strengthen infrastructure that can operate both from Spanish territory and alongside the unit during overseas deployments.
