Samantha Vallejo-Nágera has presented in Zaragoza the documentary «The First Time… The Flavor of the New,» a project that fuses innovation, art, and the wines of the Denomination of Origin Cariñena. This audiovisual piece, funded by the Diputación de Zaragoza, stands out for its focus on creativity and the new range of wines «Garnacha Nueva de Cariñena.»
Aragonese Artists in the Spotlight
The documentary features the participation of four prominent Aragonese artists. Itziar Miranda, known for her role in «Amar en tiempos revueltos,» brings her experience as an actress and children’s book author. Nacho Rubio, an actor and screenwriter, joins the project with his background in cultural and gastronomic spaces. The singer Carmen París, awarded the National Prize for Current Music, contributes her innovative vision of the jota. Finally, Arantxa Ezquerro, costume designer and winner of the 2025 Goya Award, completes the cast with her creative perspective.
Locations and Production of the Documentary
The recordings took place in October at iconic locations in the Denomination of Origin Cariñena, such as its vineyards, the Cariñena Wine Museum, Goya’s birthplace in Fuendetodos, and the sanctuary of the Virgin of Lagunas. The production, carried out by Nephilim, was directed by Cristina and María José Martín Barcelona, with a script by Javier García Monserrat. The documentary, half an hour long, aims to capture the essence of innovation in wine and art.
Innovation in «Garnacha Nueva de Cariñena»
The «Garnacha Nueva de Cariñena» line represents a commitment to innovation and tradition. Launched a year ago, this range of young and fresh wines, with low alcohol content, is reinterpreted by different wineries. The wines «Hoy,» «Cierzo,» and «Momento Clave,» created by the wineries Grandes Vinos, San Valero, and Paniza, respectively, reflect the diversity and richness of this emblematic variety.
The premiere of the documentary at the Cervantes Cinema in Zaragoza was attended by Vallejo-Nágera and Carmen París, highlighting the commitment of the Diputación de Zaragoza to culture and wine as tools for cohesion and heritage promotion. Starting March 13, the documentary will be available on YouTube and on the Denomination’s website, expanding its reach through social media.
