The event, held on May 10, 2025, brought together 100 participants to explore the geological and paleontological wealth of Santa Cruz de Nogueras (Teruel), focusing on the seas and coasts of the Paleozoic era.
Scientific guides from the Teruel-Dinópolis Paleontological Joint Foundation and the Museum of Paleozoic Seas led a 3 km tour. Attendees observed outcrops of rocks from the Ordovician, Silurian, and Devonian periods, analyzing their fossil content. The interaction between experts and the public was key during the day.
Santa Cruz de Nogueras houses Paleozoic formations studied since the mid-20th century, which have allowed for the description of new marine species such as brachiopods, crinoids, and primitive armored fish. Research in the area includes stratigraphic, sedimentological, and paleontological investigations with international participation.
The choice of this location reflects the effort to highlight local initiatives like the Museum of Paleozoic Seas, which contribute to scientific dissemination in rural areas. The event underscored the potential of paleontology as a driver of development in regions with low population density.
